Job Summary:

Provo City is seeking a highly skilled and responsible individual to join the Aquatics team as a lifeguard and swim instructor. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers and patrons, providing first aid and rescue services when necessary, and teaching Red Cross sanctioned water safety and swimming classes.

Responsibilities:

• Lifeguard and instruct water safety courses at the Provo Recreation Center.

• Monitor swimmers and patrons.

• Provide first aid.

• Rescue swimmers/patrons when necessary.

• Assist staff members as needed and perform other related work as required.

Requirements:

• Be 16 years of age (or 15 with restrictions) at time of appointment.

• A current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.

• A current American Red Cross WSI Certification or equivalent AND/OR teaching swim experience.

• Provo will provide training opportunities to obtain the above certifications if you do not already have them.

Working Conditions:

This position requires physical strength and agility to perform the work, including rescuing, standing, bending, and swimming during instruction and safety assistance. The ability to work in various weather conditions and with the public in potentially stressful situations is also required. Regular exposure to the sun and pool chemicals is a part of this job.

Selection Process:

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted and kept on file for 60 days, after which they will be removed from the application process. Applicants must be eligible to apply as indicated above to be included. If selected for hire, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
