Job Summary
The activities coordinator leads the planning and development of activity programming, ensuring activities are conducted in a safe and effective manner by staff. This role serves as a resource for employees, residents, and family members with concerns related to established activities and other matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish relationships with outside community partners to provide a positive experience for residents.
- Create and plan activities around established resident care plans, assessing the needs of the audience and developing programs that meet those needs.
- Complete activity assessments and minimum data set (MDS) questions as needed.
- Strive to improve the quality of life for residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on a one-on-one and/or group basis.
- Administer the monthly activity calendar and elicit residents' input into activity planning.
- Participate in activities such as fishing, nature walks, pet therapy, music therapy, and others to support residents and maintain their dignity and identity.
- May assist with simple nursing procedures and transporting residents to and from rooms.
- Oversee the effectiveness of programming and provide necessary feedback to enhance the quality of activities.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Two years' experience in this field preferred.
- Knowledge of working with a wide variety of resident demographics.
- Experience in social services, creative activities, or long-term care desired.
- Eligibility for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body.
