Job OverviewThis role involves working as a Diesel Mechanic at the Nebraska Department of Transportation. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing highly skilled and complex diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of multiple makes and models of heavy-duty trucks, road construction, and maintenance equipment containing computerized systems/sensors. This includes fabricating and repairing equipment and parts using various welding methods and operating diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions.
Key Responsibilities- Detecting and troubleshooting problems with diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems
- Performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements
- Repairing or replacing faulty components, including injectors, fuel pumps, and cylinder heads
- Maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on equipment
- Collaborating with other mechanics and supervisors to achieve departmental goals and objectives
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in diesel engine repair and maintenance
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as automotive technology or mechanical engineering
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools and software
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment
The estimated annual salary for this position is $46,384, based on a hourly rate of $22.27 per hour. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, paid time off, and training opportunities.
