Job Summary:

This PRN position requires working 2 weekend shifts per month (8-hour shifts) and weekday shifts as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and rehabilitate patients of all ages with communication and oral-pharyngeal disorders of functional or neurological origin.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment programs to facilitate the development and maintenance of human communication and swallowing ability.
  • Document findings, progress, and provide instruction to patients and caregivers.
  • Provide recommendations and assist speech therapists and management team with program development.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor, overseeing the development, guidance, and training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited university-based program.
  • Current license to practice Speech/Language Pathology by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology for Texas.
  • Current certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • One year of experience preferred.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assume responsibility in the care of the patient.
  • Perform complete, comprehensive evaluations of patients with a physician's referral.
  • Implement a Speech/Language Pathology treatment program.
  • Re-assess patient status and alter treatment goals, plan, and program as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and professional colleagues.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • May serve as clinical instructor for Speech interns.
  • Serves as clinical resource to staff, hospital, schools, and the community in general.
  • Actively participates in organized community service/functions as a representative of the profession.
