Position Overview:

The Healthcare Clinic Registered Nurse plays a vital role within a dedicated care team, delivering exceptional nursing services to patients in a preventive health care environment. The responsibilities of the Clinic Nurse encompass a variety of tasks, including administering treatments, monitoring patient vitals, assisting healthcare providers during examinations, and ensuring the clinic operates smoothly and efficiently. This role demands outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to foster a supportive and reassuring atmosphere for patients. Furthermore, the Clinic Nurse collaborates with the healthcare team to maintain precise patient records while upholding the highest standards of patient safety and confidentiality. As a Clinic Nurse at JWCH, you will have the chance to positively impact the health and well-being of underserved populations in the greater Los Angeles area through the direct provision of coordinated health care, health education, health services, and research.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform triage for all walk-in patients, including vital signs and comprehensive assessments.
  2. Conduct telephone triage via the Call-Center in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  3. Complete TB screenings/readings and maintain accurate documentation.
  4. Administer oral, IM, SC, and SL medications as required.
  5. Assist Medical Providers with procedures as necessary.
  6. Manage I.V. placement and monitoring, including the infusion of I.V. fluids as directed by the Provider.
  7. Monitor acutely ill patients until they are stable for transport or until paramedics arrive.
  8. Address patient complaints and follow appropriate procedures for resolution.
  9. Provide patient education and schedule necessary appointments with specialists or hospitals.
  10. Assign daily nursing duties and identify areas for improvement in patient flow.
  11. Organize and maintain the medication inventory, ensuring expired medications are properly disposed of.
  12. Prepare and dispense medications as ordered by the Provider, including the completion of medication labels.
  13. Order medical supplies as needed.
  14. Collaborate with the Clinic Administrator to enhance systematic functions.
  15. Develop and oversee communication networks among the Medical Director, back office staff, social workers, providers, and external staff to improve continuity of care.
  16. Educate and motivate back office staff to reach their highest potential by identifying training needs.
  17. Ensure adherence to the Nursing Training Manual and Agency Policies and Procedures.
  18. Perform additional duties as required by the program and/or clinic.
Qualifications:
  1. Licensed by the State of California as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  3. A minimum of one year of experience in an ambulatory care setting.
  4. Experience working with diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural patient populations.
  5. Possess a valid California Driver's license and the ability to travel to various sites.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  9. Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
  10. Commitment to providing compassionate and culturally sensitive care to underserved communities.

1. Bilingual (Spanish/English)

This program is available to licensed primary care medical, dental, and mental health providers who are employed or have accepted an offer of employment at an NHSC-approved site. Awardees can receive up to $50,000 in exchange for two years of service in a HPSA of 14 or above (Tier I) or up to $30,000 for a HPSA of 13 and below (Tier II).
