Job Overview

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will deliver speech-language therapy services to students under the guidance of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
A Bachelor's degree in communicative sciences and disorders is required, along with a Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Candidates should possess strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with a solid understanding of speech-language disorders and related conditions.

Experience:
A minimum of fifty hours of clinical observation and assisting experience is required for licensure.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Therapeutic Responsibilities
  1. Administer speech, language, and hearing screenings as instructed by the supervising licensed speech-language pathologist.
  2. Execute the treatment plan or individual education plan (IEP) as developed by the supervising licensed speech-language pathologist.
  3. Facilitate carry-over activities to help students apply their newly acquired communication skills in various contexts.
  4. Participate in the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings as directed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  5. Conduct observations and prepare necessary clinical materials.
Consultative Duties
  1. Collaborate with classroom educators to implement activities aimed at enhancing students' communication skills.
Student Management
  1. Create a supportive learning environment that aligns with the maturity levels and interests of students.
  2. Establish and maintain discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Program Management
  1. Compile, maintain, and file all necessary reports, records, and documentation, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  2. Adhere to policies established by federal and state laws, as well as district regulations.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Follow established safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard testing equipment and office equipment including computers and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling, bending, and twisting.
Motion: Regular walking and grasping.
Lifting: Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), with occasional heavier lifting (45 pounds or more) as needed.
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards and communicable diseases; may require travel.
Mental Demands: Ability to work with frequent interruptions while maintaining emotional control.
