Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Adjunct Faculty member to teach Emergency Management courses at Lone Star College. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in public administration, emergency management, homeland security, or a related discipline, or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in public administration, emergency management, or a related discipline.

The Adjunct Faculty member will be expected to teach at a variety of times and locations, and will be responsible for submitting required college reports and forms in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will be a team player who is committed to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teach Emergency Management courses at a variety of times and locations
  2. Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  3. Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  4. Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  5. Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
  6. Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform students in a timely manner of their progress
  7. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  8. Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and the effective use of technology
  • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning

Working Conditions:

  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline/industry
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards

Salary and Benefits:
