The Overhead Crane Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of crane operations. This position involves direct interaction with clients, making interpersonal skills just as important as technical expertise for effective service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Execute on-site repairs for overhead cranes and hoists at client locations as instructed by the Service Supervisor or Service Manager.

2. Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on various crane and hoist systems.

3. Respond to emergency breakdown calls as directed, including after-hours and weekend availability.

4. Perform thorough on-site troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and structural issues to identify the root causes of equipment failures, utilizing visual inspections and appropriate testing tools.

5. Maintain a solid understanding of OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and other relevant regulations governing the crane service industry.

6. Demonstrate proficiency in electrical theory related to power and controls, as well as mechanical systems of cranes and hoists.

7. Accurately complete daily documentation, including time tickets, service reports, inspection reports, and expense reports.

8. Review all repairs performed with the client and obtain their signature on the service report to confirm satisfaction with the work completed.

9. Ensure all company tools and equipment are maintained according to manufacturer recommendations.

10. Keep an adequate inventory of necessary parts and supplies on the service vehicle.

11. Maintain a professional appearance and uphold the company’s image at all times.

12. Communicate regularly with the local office, checking in with the service supervisor at least once daily.

13. Foster excellent customer relationships through effective communication and interpersonal skills.

14. Adhere to Quality Assurance Standards.

15. Gather and formalize information for proposals regarding replacement and repair opportunities.

16. Stay current with training assignments.

17. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent vocational training is preferred.

Experience and Skills

- Minimum of 2 years in an industrial maintenance setting or equivalent military experience.

- Previous experience with overhead crane service is advantageous but not mandatory.

- Commitment to ongoing education in the crane industry, with a focus on becoming more technologically adept.

- Valid driver's license in good standing.

- Ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 75 lbs.) and work at heights exceeding six feet.

- Standard work schedule of 40 hours per week, with flexibility for overtime and on-call duties as needed.

- Minimal travel is required.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong analytical skills.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and excellent math skills.

- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.

- Successful completion of a background check, physical examination, drug screening, and E-verify is required.
