Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine to join our team at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. As a key member of our faculty, you will play a vital role in the development and operation of our Geriatrics program.
Key Responsibilities- Teach and mentor residents and medical students in patient care activities, including supervising and conducting teaching rounds on hospitalized patients.
- Provide teaching and modeling to fellows, residents, and medical students on interdisciplinary team care for frail geriatric patients with complex needs.
- Work with the Geriatric interdisciplinary team to define key outcomes expected from interdisciplinary care.
- Act as a teaching physician in resident outpatient clinics, including patient care aspects and procedural skills.
- Set the foundation and structure for a possible Geriatric Fellowship Program.
- Serve as a Consultant for Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine referral clinic and the Geriatric Interdisciplinary Assessment clinic.
- Participate in special clinics, such as the Frailty Clinic, Falls Clinic, and Bone Density Clinic.
- Participate in teaching service rounds and family medicine call.
- Conduct nursing home rounds with residents and participate in assisted living rounds with the Geriatric team as needed.
- Provide emergency services to patients as needed.
- Serve as Director of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine.
- Administer the Geriatric and Palliative Medicine Programs and set priorities for providers and staff assigned to these programs.
- Work with the Geriatric Team to provide oversight over all Geriatric curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Recommend policies and procedures and quality control procedures for the Geriatric Program.
- Work collaboratively with affiliated hospitals and the Department of Internal Medicine to develop and expand Geriatric programs and services.
- Professional Medical Degree or foreign equivalent.
- Board certification in Family Medicine at time of hire.
- Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Illinois.
- Current certification in Geriatrics from ABFM.
- Sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
