Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher to join our team at Comal ISD. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching ASL to high school students and developing curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse student population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Strategies
    • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the district's curriculum program and meet the needs of students with varying learning styles.
    • Prepare lessons that incorporate accommodations for students with special needs.
    • Present subject matter in a clear and concise manner, adhering to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency and district policies.
    • Plan and use instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of student learning styles and needs.
    • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to inform instructional decisions.
    • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
    • Supervise and assign tasks to teacher aides and volunteers as needed.
    • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Student Growth and Development
    • Help students develop effective study habits and strategies.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal evaluations.
    • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, including sponsoring outside activities approved by the campus principal.
    • Model positive behavior and support the mission of Comal ISD.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
    • Create a learning environment that is conducive to student growth and development.
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources.
  • Communication
    • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and colleagues.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
    • Effectively communicate information to students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Professional Growth and Development
    • Participate in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
    • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
    • Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, adhering to district policies and procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or district administration.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Supervise assigned teacher aides.
