Unit Information

The ER/ED unit at this facility is a Level 3 Trauma center with a highly organized team focused on high reliability, customer service, and zero harm. The unit has 25 beds, 3 triage rooms, and 3 trauma bays.

The average wait time for patients is 90 minutes from admission order to transfer for inpatient, with a maximum of 4-8 hours for hold patients. The unit admits pediatric patients to their 10-bed inpatient unit but transfers higher-acuity patients to other facilities.

Staffing and Certifications

The staffing ratio is 1:4, with a goal of having 3 RNs and 1 CNA per zone. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Preferred certifications include ENPC.

Common Diagnoses and Patient Types

The unit treats a variety of patients, including those with abdominal pain, diabetes, hypertension, STEMIs, and strokes. The ideal candidate will have experience with trauma, triage, and critical care.

Equipment and Technology

The unit uses Epic for electronic medical records and has a range of equipment, including ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and high-flow oxygen therapy. RNs are expected to troubleshoot equipment and read telemonitor strips.

Shifts and Scheduling

The unit operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, with mid-shifts from 1P-1:30A, 2P-2:30A, 4P-4:30A, and 6P-6:30A. The scheduler may use a template to create the schedule, allowing for 5 days off in a row every 3-4 weeks.

Additional Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of ER experience, with some trauma experience and triage experience. They should be able to titrate critical drips and procedural sedation for adults and pediatrics.
