Job Summary:

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive respiratory care to patients with respiratory illnesses. Your responsibilities will include critical care support, emergency room assistance, ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosolized medication delivery, and CPR/code team participation. You will also be trained in Pulmonary Diagnostics, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and EEG/NCV procedures. Collaborating closely with the healthcare team, you will set therapeutic goals, operate diagnostic equipment, and maintain accurate documentation.

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Practitioner program
  • Associates degree required; BS/BA degree desirable
Licensure/Certification:
  • Current active license from the State of Maryland Physician Board Quality Assurance (MPBQA)
  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Definitions of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) are as follows
  • RR-Registered Respiratory Therapist (Advanced Practitioner) required effective 3/1/2020
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred
  • Must pass hospital Arrhythmia test within three months
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Must be able to understand medical terminology, medical anatomy and physiology, and effectively convey this information in written and verbal format to others
  • Strong understanding of pulmonary anatomy and physiology relative to the tests performed
  • Should be mechanically inclined with good manual dexterity for equipment troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
