Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Supply Technician to join our team at SUNY Upstate Medical University. As a key member of our Sterile Processing Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility in the preparation and distribution of surgical instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow written instructions from the instruments list using medical terminology.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively for purposes of information transfer.
  • Oversee and operate equipment for cleaning and disinfecting of surgical equipment.
  • Participate in the assembly of complex as well as simple surgical sets.
  • Operate equipment for the sterilization of complex and simple surgical sets using Steam under pressure, Steris, and Sterrad.
  • Record the monitoring of sterilization and decontamination of equipment.
  • Train and orient staff.
  • Respond to urgent and routine requests for surgical instrumentation from O.R. personnel.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a nationally accredited central service technician exam and current certification administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization as a registered central service technician, sterile processing and distribution technician, or possession of a substantially equivalent credential.

Alternatively, you may have evidence of employment as a Central Service Technician in a Healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year between January 1, 2011 and January 1, 2015, or examination and certification as described above within eighteen months of hire.

Candidates who do not possess one-year of experience will be considered for appointment to an entry-level position at commensurate salary.
