The Education Program at Barnard College seeks a part-time instructor to teach a seminar course in urban education during the Fall 2024 semester.
Job DescriptionThis is a 4-credit seminar course, taught once a week for 2 hours, in the Fall 2024 semester. It includes a student fieldwork component.
Course Objectives- To explore the historical, political, and socio-cultural dynamics of urban education in the U.S. context.
- To investigate the paradox of urban schools failing to provide their students with an adequate, equitable education.
- To consider effective reform in a global city like NYC.
Students will engage these questions through course readings, seminar discussions, and a 40-hour field placement in a New York City public school classroom, extra-curricular program, or other education-based site.
Responsibilities- Instructional responsibilities.
- Availability for weekly student office hours.
- Additional instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities, determined by the Program Chair.
- Expertise in the subject matter as described above.
- Doctorate preferred.
- Salary: $12,500 for 4-point course, Fall semester 2024.
