ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Tin Building by Jean-Georges is a vast culinary marketplace located within a historic landmark. This venue encompasses multiple dining options, including full-service restaurants and fast-casual outlets, alongside a retail space offering a selection of gourmet products. To support this extensive operation, a large commissary kitchen and bakery are available, as well as an exhibition kitchen for media opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook position is tasked with the meticulous preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes in accordance with menu specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and produce a diverse range of high-quality dishes based on guest orders, adhering to established recipes and specifications.
  • Work across various kitchen stations as needed to meet business demands.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely delivery of menu items.
  • Accurately measure and weigh ingredients to maintain recipe standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of recipes, ingredients, allergens, and food presentation techniques.
  • Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation meet the established standards.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization within the kitchen, following all health and safety regulations.
  • Properly store or dispose of leftover food items.
  • Set up and stock kitchen stations, replenishing supplies as necessary.
  • Label, date, and rotate all products and prepared items according to FIFO (first in, first out) principles.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including punctuality and uniform standards.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned in a timely and professional manner.
  • Act ethically to safeguard the company's assets and reputation.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate business needs.
  • Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Culinary degree or certification is highly desirable.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a high-volume kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
  • Excellent knife skills and proficiency in various cooking techniques are essential.
  • Experience with different cooking methods, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to work on multiple stations within the kitchen.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Capability to follow directions and execute recipes accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong work ethic and customer-focused approach.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Passion for culinary arts and dedication to excellence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions consistently and safely.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent movement around the kitchen and property.
  • Regular climbing of steps as needed.

The base pay range for this position is $17-$22 per hour, determined by factors such as prior experience and skills.
