POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician oversees the management of instrument inventory, ensuring the efficient processing and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of sterile products and ensuring compliance with established standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Scrubbing surgical cases as necessary based on operational needs.

· Staying current with surgical procedures, including knowledge of required supplies and techniques.

· Acting as a mentor for staff, ensuring adherence to departmental policies and regulatory standards.

· Managing supply orders and maintaining optimal inventory levels to control costs.

· Ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety protocols.

· Setting priorities for team members, delegating tasks, and ensuring timely completion.

· Scheduling and managing the maintenance of sterilization equipment.

· Receiving and processing contaminated instruments, ensuring thorough cleaning and preparation.

· Identifying and handling sensitive instruments that require special care during cleaning.

· Coordinating the sterilization of loaner instruments for various specialties.

· Assembling and inspecting surgical trays, ensuring all components are accounted for and in good condition.

· Maintaining an accurate computerized inventory of surgical trays and instruments.

· Understanding sterilization processes and parameters, ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.

· Troubleshooting equipment issues during procedures and recommending appropriate solutions.

· Conducting quality control checks on sterilization processes and maintaining proper documentation.

· Reviewing surgical schedules and ensuring alignment with preference cards.

· Anticipating and coordinating the needs for specialty equipment and supplies.

· Keeping abreast of medical terminology and surgical procedures across various specialties.

· Demonstrating initiative in assisting colleagues, preparing reports, and managing departmental needs effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· High School diploma or GED required.

· At least 2 years of experience in a sterile processing environment.

· Certification as a Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
