The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a federal agency responsible for protecting the nation's transportation systems. As an Expert Transportation Security Officer, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the American way of life by securing airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and public transit systems.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the airport training program through performance of various training-related functions
  • Performing pre-board security screening of persons, cargo, carry-on, and checked baggage as directed by the Federal Security Director or designee
  • Acting as a training course lead to ensure class materials are coordinated and in place, confirming rosters, ensuring evaluations are done and submitted, conducting testing, and recording results
  • Delivering instructor development courses to support the STI position, including Instructor Presentation Skills Course and Train the Trainer Courses for nationally developed programs

In addition to these responsibilities, you will be required to maintain all screening certification requirements and perform screening functions a minimum of 20% of the time. This position is designated as an Emergency Essential (EE) position, which requires employees to remain in a duty status if an emergency arises.

To qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of experience functioning as a TSO equivalent at the E band level (GS-7/8) or above, and one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the E band level (GS-7/8) or above, utilizing instructional methods to provide formal training or teach others in prescribed or designated subjects or areas.
