Diagnostic Tech/Diagnostic Tech Adv Job Description

At UPMC, we're committed to delivering exceptional patient care and advancing the field of diagnostic imaging. We're seeking a skilled Diagnostic Tech/Diagnostic Tech Adv to join our team at UPMC Presbyterian.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify patients properly using two patient identifiers and utilize universal protocol when performing procedures.
  • Review patient history and assess physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
  • Document patient history in electronic record as required.
  • Administer PO and rectal contrast per physician orders/department policy.
  • Ensure all exams within your area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.
  • Perform diagnostic radiography procedures utilizing established protocols/procedures without requiring constant supervision.
  • Utilize complex imaging equipment for the acquisition, analysis, manipulation, and documentation of image data and complete procedures according to protocol.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity, and respect.
  • Able to work as a team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.
  • Perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment to adjust protocols and show initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately for diagnostic radiography purposes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
Diagnostic Tech Adv Responsibilities:
  • Perform or assist Clinical Specialist in performing QA, regulatory testing, and other technical and research initiatives.
  • Perform all job responsibilities of Diagnostic Tech I.
  • Demonstrate competency of specialty equipment (O.R., Fluoro Procedures, etc.) and analyze data promptly. Perform electrocardiograms and lab draw functions if applicable.
  • Monitor quality control activities and demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge in Diagnostic Imaging by providing patient care as defined by the most up-to-date protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to function independently and cover off shifts, on-call responsibilities, and perform services at satellite facilities, where applicable, while continually communicating with lead and management team.
  • Participate in standardization activities with system-level workgroups.
  • Work directly with Radiologists regarding protocol development.
  • Assist with the training of staff and student technologists.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved school of Radiologic Technology or verification from ARRT-approved school of completion of program and scheduled graduation date.
  • Technologists hired before graduation will have indirect supervision by an ARRT-certified diagnostic technologist until the degree is verified.
  • ARRT Registry eligible as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Must obtain radiography registry within 12 months of hire date.
  • CPR or BLS Required.
  • ARRT Certificate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 34.
