Role Overview: As our infrastructure evolves to support a rapidly expanding engineering organization, we are seeking skilled backend engineers to enhance our essential product infrastructure. This role emphasizes the development of systems that prioritize an exceptional developer experience while ensuring scalability as we progress.

Current Openings:

  • Storage Team: Focused on accelerating product development through scalable and reliable storage solutions. Experience with RDS MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and TiDB is preferred. Candidates should be enthusiastic about distributed systems and databases, taking ownership of building and maintaining these critical systems.
  • Data Infrastructure Team: Aims to facilitate data-driven decision-making by providing high-performance analytics infrastructure. Familiarity with technologies such as Redshift, Spark, Trino, Kinesis, and Flink is beneficial. This infrastructure supports data engineers, analysts, and product developers.
  • Service Orchestration Team: Responsible for implementing advanced technologies for backend service deployment. Ideal candidates will have a passion for scalable distributed systems and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), with experience in Kubernetes (k8s) being advantageous.
  • Developer Effectiveness Team: Oversees the development environment and toolchain, including IDE experiences and build/test frameworks. The goal is to enhance developer satisfaction and productivity, continuously improving tools and processes.

Work Environment: Airtable embraces a hybrid working model, allowing flexibility in working from home or the office. We are particularly interested in candidates located in specific metropolitan areas who are willing to collaborate in person regularly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement significant enhancements to Airtable's infrastructure, collaborating across teams to maximize impact.
  • Tackle complex systems-level challenges where scalability, efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount.
  • Create clean, reusable, and maintainable abstractions for long-term use by Airtable engineers.
  • Assume full responsibility for various components of Airtable's infrastructure, ensuring reliability and performance.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of industry experience, with a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience in databases, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data infrastructure is preferred.
  • A passion for refactoring and creating clean abstractions to simplify complex systems.
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with a degree in CS or a related field.
  • Willingness to relocate or currently based in a specified metropolitan area.
