Nurse Specialist

The Nurse Specialist at Wellstar Health System, Inc. plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. This position requires a registered nurse with a strong background in nursing practice and a passion for providing exceptional patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of clinical care using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care coordination.
- Provide relationship-based patient-centered care that adapts to population-specific characteristics, ensuring culturally sensitive service delivery.
- Partner with patients and significant others to set and achieve care goals, using effective communication methods such as bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient teaching.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive communication methods and timely documentation.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing fiscally responsible care and promoting the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
- Participate in performance improvement, research, and research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care, including initiating and leading activities and promoting an inter/intra-disciplinary process.
- Professional Development and Initiative
- Complete initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population-specific education.
- Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional practice and creating a healthy work environment.
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing, participating in activities such as value analysis and decision-making processes.
- Uphold health care system/organizational policies and procedures, clinical competencies, and professional association standards, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Resources and Support
- Proactively plan for patient care across the care continuum, providing direct patient care and participating in the development of protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes.
- Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Education
- Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
- License and Certification
- Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- ACLS certification may be required for some settings within 180 days.
- Experience
- Minimum 1 year of direct patient care in an acute care setting.
- Skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Inter- and intra-departmental coordination of patient care activities.
