Job Summary

Yuma Regional Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counselor to join our team. As a Genetic Counselor, you will provide genetic counseling and referral services for patients of all age groups, including obstetric-prenatal counseling, pediatric, and cancer. You will work closely with healthcare providers to provide highly specialized genetic information pertinent to patient management.

Responsibilities
  • Review patient charts and evaluate family history through investigation of outside records, examination of affected individuals, or family testing of chromosome analysis, DNA studies, metabolic screening, etc.
  • Review implications and discuss options with patient and/or family members. Make referrals for ongoing care and support.
  • Assess recurrence risk and recommend medical or genetic testing based on analysis of the risk, benefit, and cost.
  • Provide crisis intervention and psychosocial counseling to patients and/or family members upon discovery of unexpected findings (e.g., malformation, biochemical disorders) regarding genetic conditions.
  • Provide case management for complex genetic cases, including coordination of medical recommendations and management plans, testing, and ongoing counseling.
  • Maintain appropriate records, including patient information, progress notes, and charts, statistics, and encounter forms.
  • Provide summary letters and other necessary documentation to referring providers and patients.
  • Develop and present in-service education to physicians and health professional education materials, and current medical genetic topics.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences to assist the medical team with determining a patient-specific treatment and/or monitoring plan of care.
  • Maintain current knowledge regarding trends and developments in the field of genetics from multiple professional sources.
  • Recommend and implement enhanced clinical practice standards.
Requirements
  • Masters' Degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling or its equivalent required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible Genetic Counselor American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
