Phlebotomy Specialist

As a Phlebotomy Specialist at Boston Medical Center, you will be responsible for providing high-quality laboratory services to patients. This includes registration, specimen collection, processing, and other related duties. You will work closely with our team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipunctures according to laboratory policies and procedures
Positively identify patients and verify specimen identification
Receive and prepare laboratory specimens for analysis
Centrifuge and aliquot specimens as needed
Optimize specimen routing and prioritize stat and routine specimens
Prepare workstations with essential supplies
Monitor and record daily temperatures and perform equipment maintenance
Complete logs for documentation and troubleshooting
Utilize technical training and acquire in-depth knowledge of the LIS
Perform patient registration functions in EPIC registration system
Answer the telephone according to department policy and procedure
Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct
Manage time appropriately and meet BMC standards for attendance and punctuality
Attend department meetings and document activities related to quality improvement
Assist in training new lab support technicians and phlebotomy students
Complete laboratory and hospital safety, compliance, and competency training as assigned
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
Completion of a NAACLS accredited phlebotomy program
Phlebotomy and/or specimen processing experience preferred
Excellent English communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personal/health sensitive information
Ability to effectively handle challenging situations and balance multiple priorities
