Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering professional nursing care aimed at ensuring the comfort and health of patients. The RN prepares necessary equipment and assists physicians during medical examinations and procedures. Additionally, the RN administers prescribed medications, performs dressing changes, cleans wounds, and monitors vital signs of patients.
The RN plays a crucial role as the primary nurse, associate nurse, team member, or team leader in the development and execution of patient care plans. The RN directs and supports the implementation of safe aseptic techniques and procedures. Leadership and guidance are provided to all support staff within the department.
The 8NT unit is a 27-bed step-down facility specializing in Neuro Telemetry and Neuro Surgical Services. The main patient demographic includes individuals recovering from strokes, seizures, spinal injuries, laminectomies, cervical fusions, and craniotomies post-ICU recovery, along with occasional cases of Guillain-Barre and Myasthenia Gravis. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained at 1:4-5, ensuring quality care. We foster a strong collaborative relationship with our neuro surgeons and neurologists, who contribute education and guidance to enhance nursing practices. A8 is recognized for its Gold Standard care for stroke patients by JCHAO, and we are committed to cultivating a culture of teamwork and excellence. Every member of our unit, from Charge nurses to therapy staff, housekeeping, and case management, plays an essential role in our collaborative approach.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program, with the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.
- Preferred one year of nursing experience.
- Current RN License in Texas.
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- ACLS certification required within six months of hire or transfer.
- EKG certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
- NIHSS certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
