Job Summary

Provo City is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Officer Lateral to join our team. As a lateral transfer candidate, you will have the opportunity to leverage your existing law enforcement experience and skills to advance your career with our department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce all applicable laws and regulations, including state and local ordinances.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including life-threatening and property-threatening calls.
  • Conduct investigations, gather intelligence, and make arrests as necessary.
  • Secure crime scenes and collect evidence.
  • Interview witnesses, suspects, and victims to gather information and build cases.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Law Enforcement Officer Certificate from Utah State Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
  • Must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.
  • A valid, lawful Driver License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of law enforcement experience equivalent to the level of a Provo City Police Officer 1.
  • Police Officer II or Senior Police Officer level experience.

Selection Process
  • Provo City will certify a list of lateral transfer candidates at the beginning of each month.
  • Applicants will be screened for additional requirements and invited to take the Provo City Police Officer Lateral Transfer Exam.
  • Applicants who score at least 80% on the exam will be advanced to a Command Staff interview.
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a background investigation, drug screening, psychological examination, polygraph, and meeting minimum physical standards set by POST.
