Job Overview

Mold Tech III plays a pivotal role in maintaining, repairing, and modifying plastic injection mold tooling to meet engineering, quality, and production standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine checks on frame and lens injection molding tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Repair and Modification: Fix damaged tools and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
  • Tooling Drawings: Interpret complex tooling drawings to understand parts and assemblies.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Assist the Tooling Manager in identifying the source of tool damage.
  • Mold Assembly and Disassembly: Safely disassemble and reassemble molds while understanding their functionality.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean molds and assist Process Technicians as needed.
  • Measuring Equipment: Utilize precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and bore micrometers.
  • Inventories and Records: Monitor component inventories and maintain accurate records on the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Troubleshooting: Collaborate with Process Engineers to resolve tool-related issues and improve processes.
  • Production Floor Support: Work closely with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize tool performance.
  • Critical Tolerances: Achieve precise tolerances when fitting cores, cavities, ejector pins, and moving parts.
  • Machining: Operate surface grinders and Bridgeport/Lathe machines within specified tolerances.
  • Mechanical Systems: Understand manifold systems, including Mold Master and Synventive.
  • Reporting: Document daily activities and share progress with the Tooling Manager and production teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a toolroom involving plastic injection mold repair or maintenance.
  • Equipment Operation: Proficiency in using hand-operated toolroom equipment.
  • Mold and Die Components: Knowledge of mold and die components and their characteristics.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technologies.
