Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate population.
  • Conduct medical histories, examine inmates, and order and interpret laboratory tests, x-ray, and other diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnose and treat patients in an efficient, timely, and professional manner, provide treatment plans, and prescribe medication utilizing the Bureau of Prisons formulary.
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing.
  • Attend to medical emergencies.
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy.
  • Perform emergency consultation in instances where deemed necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physicians and consulting physicians in planning, instituting, evaluating, and revising program plans.
  • Assist in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of health care services.
  • Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Manage the daily operation of the clinic and conduct daily sick calls, which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings, and providing clinical evaluations.
  • Provide a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physician.
  • Constantly be aware of security and maintain a professional relationship with inmates at all times.
Requirements and Experience
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Valid California license.
  • BLS (AHA).
  • Proof of malpractice insurance.
  • Must have 1 year of family medicine experience or 1 year of urgent care experience.
