We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Nurse to join our team at Carle Health. As a member of our interdisciplinary team, you will contribute professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the application of the nursing process.
Responsibilities:
Assess patient's status through interview, observation, and physical assessment of actual problems and outcomes.
Develop an individualized plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and healthcare team.
Use appropriate interventions identified in the plan of care to achieve expected patient outcomes.
Systematically evaluate and document patient's progress toward expected outcomes/goals on an ongoing basis throughout the shift.
Modify plan of care based on evaluation and as needed based on changes in patient condition.
Complete required documentation as appropriate, including patient chart and event reports.
Demonstrate professional accountability for own practice as evidenced through seeking resources and continued self-development.
Demonstrate technical knowledge of equipment and troubleshoot when problems arise.
Acquire and maintain current knowledge and skills in evidence-based nursing practice.
Promote the professional development of self and team members.
Share clinical knowledge through informal teaching and in response to the learning needs of others.
Demonstrate a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues (as applicable).
Demonstrate skills to promote patient and staff safety through appropriate use of lift equipment (as applicable).
Possess knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
Perform patient bedside lab testing and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider's orders and hospital lab procedures/policies.
Coordinate the interdisciplinary care of the patient through collaboration with team members and utilize additional resources when necessary.
Analyze clinical situations in a systematic way and act to obtain resources or correct problems to meet or exceed expected outcomes or patient needs.
Recognize need for assistance and utilize resources, including physician and nurse to nurse (UAT) consultation in a timely manner.
Collaborate with the healthcare team in the organization of tasks and activities for the patient's care from admission to discharge according to the plan of care and to meet identified expected outcomes.
Takes cultural, age-specific, gender, and developmental factors into consideration when teaching patients about procedures, illness, hospital experience, etc.
Ensures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals.
Requirements:
College Diploma in Nursing.
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (AHA) within 1 year and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 3 years or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) Certification within 3 years and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (AHA) within 1 year or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) Provider within 1 year and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI Training) within 3 months.
Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser. Multicultural sensitivity.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.
