- The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing a range of imaging procedures while adhering to patient safety protocols. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring their imaging requirements are met effectively.
In addition, the specialist assists healthcare providers during office examinations, administers treatments as directed, and collects essential patient information while conducting preliminary evaluations as necessary. This position also involves performing technical tasks that support the healthcare provider and facilitating patient and family education. Laboratory responsibilities include obtaining and processing laboratory specimens.
- The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for executing a range of imaging procedures while adhering to patient safety protocols. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients, ensuring their imaging requirements are met effectively.
- Essential Qualifications
- Experience
- No prior experience is required.
- Educational Background
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program is mandatory.
- Licensure and Certification
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the ARRT is essential.
- Certification as a Radiation Operator in the State of Kentucky is required. Candidates certified by the State of Kentucky prior to 1978 are considered grandfathered into the profession and do not require ARRT registration.

- The following duties summarize the primary essential functions of this role. Additional responsibilities, both major and minor, may be assigned, and specific tasks may evolve over time.
- Collects patient history and diagnosis relevant to the ordered examination based on established criteria.
- Processes examinations in Digital Radiography (DR) and finalizes studies by transmitting them to the Synapse system; enters necessary information and documents the completion of exams in Synapse; updates the order status accordingly.
- Conducts examinations or adjusts procedures as needed when standard protocols cannot be followed, in accordance with the established procedures manual.
- Retrieves the most recent relevant exams and reports for comparison by Physicians and Radiologists.
- Programs radiology equipment and produces radiographs for various examinations in line with the established procedures manual. Modifications to the manual are made within policy when standard procedures cannot be executed.
- Correctly identifies patient films with the patient's name, date, and exam number. Ensures proper shielding and collimation for patient protection as per established guidelines.
- Operates and maintains departmental equipment, ensuring proper techniques and care in equipment operation. Reports any equipment issues to the practice manager or biomedical technician, documenting the date, time, location, and nature of the problem in the equipment log.
- Records the completion of examinations in the patient’s medical record in accordance with departmental procedures.
