Job Summary

The Vermont Department of Health Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Public Health Laboratory Scientist II in the Environmental Microbiology Unit. This position will work closely with senior microbiologists to develop and perform analytical procedures in areas such as wastewater surveillance, molecular biology, food microbiology, arboviral surveillance, rabies, and water bacteriology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and perform analytical procedures in various areas of microbiology
  • Read and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Input results into a laboratory information management system (LIMS)
  • Perform general laboratory duties as assigned
  • Collaborate with senior microbiologists to learn and develop new techniques
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in microbiology, molecular microbiology, biology, physical science, or a closely related field
  • OR Bachelor's degree in microbiology, molecular microbiology, biology, physical science, or a closely related field and one (1) year or more of microbiological, molecular, or biological laboratory experience
  • OR One (1) year or more of experience as a Public Health Laboratory Scientist I, Microbiology
