Position Overview:
The role of the Senior Electrical Line Technician involves the operation of machinery and execution of manual tasks related to the construction, upkeep, and repair of electrical power transmission and distribution systems, substations, generators, telecommunications, and associated equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and support to team members; assign tasks and assess performance; deliver training as necessary.
• Organize and manage departmental workload; track the progress of ongoing projects; evaluate completed work.
• Implement safety protocols and utilize protective equipment to ensure the safety of work crews and the public.
Technical Duties:
• Install, maintain, and repair both underground and overhead structures, including poles, cables, and related apparatus essential for power transmission.
• Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostic assessments to identify and rectify issues.
• Execute new underground service installations; address underground power complications; splice underground distribution lines.
• Facilitate new overhead service setups; assist in pole erection and wire adjustments.
Field Operations:
• Ascend poles or utilize truck-mounted boom lifts to install equipment, remove faulty wiring, transfer wires, or perform repairs.
• Install high mast lighting and street lighting systems, along with transformers, insulators, switches, and auxiliary equipment.
• Splice, solder, and insulate conductors to connect power lines and electrical accessories; manage grounding devices for de-energizing lines.
General Maintenance:
• Perform essential maintenance tasks to ensure machinery and tools remain in optimal condition, including inspections and fluid replacements.
• Maintain an adequate inventory of tools and materials on service vehicles for project execution.
Documentation and Communication:
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and maps.
• Complete various forms, reports, and logs; utilize computer systems for data entry and verification.
• Engage with supervisors, team members, and other departments to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
Additional Functions:
• Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
• Assist other departments as required and perform related duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational training in electrical systems and five years of relevant experience.
• Valid Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Switching School Keyholder Certification and Flagging Certification required.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements is necessary.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
• This position requires significant physical exertion, including climbing, lifting heavy objects, and working in various environmental conditions.
