Role Overview:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is responsible for safeguarding, advancing, and maximizing health and capabilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through the assessment and management of patient responses, while advocating for individuals and families.
The CNS is accountable for adhering to all standards of practice and pursuing professional growth in line with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Promote a nurturing and healing atmosphere for patient-centered care.
2. Ensure compliance with all nursing standards and regulations.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Prior clinical nursing experience in acute care or outpatient settings.
Licensure and Certification:
Minimum Required:
- Current New York State RN License
Preferred:
- Professional certification in a relevant nursing specialty
- Relevant skills certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.
Work Environment:
The work setting includes both office environments and patient care areas, necessitating close interaction with colleagues and patients. The facilities are climate-controlled.
Expectations include frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting in a dynamic environment with regular interruptions. There may be exposure to cleaning solutions and disinfectants, with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required in accordance with Infection Control policies.
