Physical Therapist Assistant

The Physical Therapist Assistant will provide physical therapy services to maximize independent function, enhance development, and prevent disability to the residents of the Veterans Home at Chelsea.
Key Responsibilities- Work under the direction of a licensed PT, providing direct and indirect treatment to residents as indicated.
- Assist the PT in assessing veteran's functional abilities and developing individualized treatment plans.
- Guide residents through therapeutic exercises and activities, providing hands-on assistance and encouragement as needed.
- Train and monitor residents and staff in physical therapy-related activities, including appropriate set up, maintenance, and use of therapeutic/adaptive equipment.
- Document all physical therapy-related services according to facility policy and report observations to the supervising PT.
- Educate residents, families, and caregivers on adaptive techniques/strategies to promote independence and safety in daily activities.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to assure optimal care, including attendance at interdisciplinary meetings.
- Communicate effectively with residents, staff, families, and colleagues.
- Understand and support departmental goals and objectives.
- Participate in team meetings and continuing education opportunities for professional growth and to stay updated on best practices in physical therapy and long-term care.
- Maintain a clean and safe treatment environment, including proper storage and organization of equipment and supplies.
- Adhere to the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct.
- Support the supervising PT in the establishment or revision of policies, procedures, and standards.
- Knowledge of the science, theory, principles, and terminology associated with the practice of physical therapy.
- Knowledge of physical therapy evaluation skills, treatment principles, and techniques, preferably in skilled nursing and long-term care facility settings.
- Ability to understand, explain, and apply the policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing physical therapy and rehabilitation activities.
- Ability to use sound clinical judgment.
- Ability to communicate using good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work alongside the supervising PT cooperatively and openly and receive feedback on performance.
- Ability to motivate and establish rapport with residents.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare general reports.
- Knowledge of facility and departmental operating systems, including laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and guidelines governing practice.
- Knowledge of types and use of agency forms.
- Knowledge of the methods used in employee performance evaluations.
The Physical Therapist Assistant will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, providing physical therapy services to residents of the Veterans Home at Chelsea. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively with residents, staff, families, and colleagues, and maintain a clean and safe treatment environment.
