Salary Range:
The established salary scales set the minimum compensation based on appointment type and, if applicable, rank and/or step. The base salary range for this role is $175,000 - $450,000, with annual negotiations. The Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Sciences, is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and diversity among faculty, staff, and students.
We are looking for faculty members to join a highly interdisciplinary program within the UC San Diego, Department of Surgery, focused on enhancing the detection and treatment of surgical diseases.
The successful candidates will engage in research pertaining to surgically managed diseases, contribute to teaching and university service, and/or provide clinical care to patients.
The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level, with options for a 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence series, contingent upon secured extramural funding, or a 100% Ladder Rank series.

As a participant in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, candidates should be aware of limitations on outside professional activities, with clinical moonlighting explicitly prohibited. Additional information is available through the relevant resources.
QualificationsBasic Qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must possess a PhD in biological sciences or related fields, and/or an MD or equivalent qualification.
Candidates with an MD or equivalent who have clinical responsibilities must be Board certified or Board eligible in a surgical specialty and must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification as determined by the Medical Board of California.
Preference will be given to candidates with established, independent, and extramurally-funded research programs focusing on basic science and/or health services/population science research relevant to surgically managed diseases.
