Job Summary

This Metal Trade Apprentice position is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to transition into a union role. As a trainee, you will gain hands-on experience in welding, metalworking, machining, and other trade-specific tasks, working alongside experienced union tradespeople.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the fabrication, cutting, shaping, and assembly of metal parts and structures.
  • Learn and perform basic welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
  • Assist with operating various tools and machinery such as hand tools, grinders, drill presses, and cutting equipment. Assist with setting up tools and equipment for Journeyman.
  • Follow detailed instructions, blueprints, and technical drawings to perform tasks accurately.
  • Assist in the fabrication of metal structures and equipment as well as maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Assist with basic rigging of metal structures including the use of overhead cranes, jib cranes, and gantry cranes. Use of nylon slings, wire ropes and skates.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored and equipment is maintained.
  • Follow safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Participate in training programs and gain knowledge of industry standards, trade best practices, and safety regulations.
  • Support tradespeople in various tasks as required and assist with heavy lifting or moving materials.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in confined spaces.
  • Basic understanding of math and measurements related to metalworking.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work.
  • Listen to and follow detailed instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, construction, or metalworking environment is a plus.
  • Basic familiarity with tools and equipment used in metal trades.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of machinery and tools, with the ability to learn more complex equipment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with guidance.
  • Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to identify potential hazards.
