Job Summary:
The Respiratory Care Professional provides respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation. This role involves performing various respiratory care procedures, including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and patient education.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
- Conduct patient assessments to determine appropriateness of prescribed therapies.
- Administer intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) or Aerosol Therapy as ordered by physicians.
- Set up and maintain different modes of oxygen therapy to ensure adequate PaO2 levels.
- Instruct patients and families in incentive spirometry, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, postural drainage, and clapping.
- Assist doctors with bronchoscopy and tracheostomy procedures.
- Evaluate normal and pathologic blood and urine laboratory value ranges.
- Perform arterial punctures and analysis, including ABG interpretation.
- Respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and participate in emergency situations as needed.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an AMA-approved school for Respiratory Care.
- Current Respiratory Care License in the state of employment.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed.
- BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Previous experience in an acute care setting preferred.
