Position Summary:

The Nursing Operations Supervisor is a licensed Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing the management of nursing services during their assigned shift. Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes sound judgment to assign patients to appropriate units based on their medical conditions and age, while adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Conducts regular visits to patient care areas to assess patient conditions, evaluate staffing requirements, and provide support to nursing staff.
  • Manages the effective allocation of nursing personnel during the shift, considering patient acuity and team recommendations to meet care needs.
  • Provides hands-on patient care to assist staff as necessary.
  • Actively participates in enhancing customer service outcomes and upholding patient rights.
  • Follows pharmacy protocols for medication procurement when the pharmacy is not operational.
  • Facilitates clear communication among medical staff, ancillary services, nursing administration, and nursing personnel.
  • Coordinates and assesses interdepartmental services during the shift to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and maintains competencies related to age and disability.
  • Informs the Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator of any significant issues or events that may impact hospital operations.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and ensures compliance among staff regarding personal protective equipment usage.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness initiatives and understands the hospital's emergency response codes.
  • Complies with safety and injury prevention policies, promptly reporting any hazards to the appropriate authorities.
  • Initiates disciplinary actions as necessary regarding employee conduct and provides constructive feedback to department leaders.
  • Communicates effectively with administrative staff regarding hospital events, challenges, and improvement suggestions.
  • Promotes adherence to hospital policies and administrative directives.
  • Supports staff in identifying and reporting medication errors and adverse drug reactions in accordance with hospital guidelines.
  • Pronounces death for patients with designated status as outlined in hospital policy.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations relevant to nursing practice.
  • Stays informed about and adheres to standards set by regulatory bodies as they pertain to nursing responsibilities.
  • Engages in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives and can articulate at least one recent improvement project.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required upon hire; PALS certification within six months.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Med/Surg or Acute Care nursing.
  • BSN preferred; management experience is a plus.
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention preferred within six months of hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated with a willingness to take on assigned duties.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and database management.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous materials or infectious agents.
