The Practical Nurse Specialist is responsible for executing the directives of the Wellness Director. This role includes overseeing and guiding nursing personnel to ensure the highest standard of care through routine nursing responsibilities. The Practical Nurse Specialist is accountable to the Wellness Director and Executive Director for all activities within the nursing department, upholding our commitment to quality care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Home Health Aides (HHAs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and facility staff.
  • Conduct daily assessments of all Assisted Living and retirement residents as necessary.
  • Monitor and report patient symptoms and conditions to the Wellness Director or Delegating Registered Nurse/Physician.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, ensuring accuracy and safety while monitoring effectiveness.
  • Notify the Wellness Director regarding supply and equipment needs.
  • Order medications from the pharmacy as required.
  • Oversee the Home Health Aide to guarantee that all nursing care is delivered properly and safely.
  • Provide emergency first aid as needed.
  • Ensure that daily care assignments and incidental duties are completed by nursing staff and HHAs as directed by the Wellness Director.
  • Perform regular rounds of all patients and areas, recognizing and reporting conditions to the Wellness Director, Registered Nurse, or Executive Director as necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the nursing station, medication room, and cart.
  • Assist in orienting new staff members.
  • Conduct admission and discharge evaluations as required.
  • Inspect equipment for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Offer guidance to nursing assistants.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, understanding that responsibilities extend to both assisted living and independent residents throughout the facility.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, currently licensed to practice in the state.
  • Experience in geriatric care.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously with visitors, staff, and residents.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Commitment to personal grooming, hygiene, and regular attendance.
  • Warm, friendly demeanor with a professional appearance and an empathetic attitude towards seniors.
  • Ability to assess residents' conditions and intervene as necessary.
  • CPR certification required, or to be obtained within 90 days of hire and renewed annually.
  • Willingness to have their image used in community advertising.
  • May be recorded by devices installed by families in residents' apartments.
