Job Summary

As a Transportation Engineer at the Texas Department of Transportation, you will be responsible for performing highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and research. You will ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Key Responsibilities

Assist Project Managers with design, computer operations, plan preparation, plan updates, project development reports, survey requests and correspondence.
Perform engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer II

In addition to the duties listed above, you will perform complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. You will also develop and review engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans, dates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and standard sheets.

Transportation Engineer III

In addition to the duties listed above, you will perform advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. You will also coordinate, lead, and monitor assigned projects/plans and allocate resources to meet deadlines. You will train engineering staff.

Transportation Engineer IV

You will analyze and assist in the resolution of contract problems construction issues, RFI's, and/or design related issues. You will evaluate and make recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible. You will serve as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work. You will design highly complex bridge projects and perform specialized design.

Transportation Engineer V

In addition to the duties listed above, you will serve as a lead worker, leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others and serve as a project/team lead for advanced and highly complex projects. You will also lead/train professional and administrative staff.
