Job Summary

The City of Beaverton is seeking an experienced Plans Examiner to join the Building Division. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for reviewing construction plans for commercial, industrial, multi-family, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with all codes, regulations, rules, laws, and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review construction plans for compliance with city ordinances, state building, mechanical, and fire codes, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Approve or deny plans for issuance, identifying plan deficiencies and notifying applicants of required alterations.
  • Work with applicants to resolve problems, determine the value of buildings for permit fees, and approve building permits.
  • Participate in pre-development and facility review meetings addressing code issues or plan deficiencies.
  • Provide technical assistance to the public and construction representatives on code questions, plan review, and processes.
  • Maintain and file applications, documentation, and records, entering plans review information into the computer system.
  • Conduct field inspections as directed, assist permit technicians on permit application processing, and coordinate with other divisions and governmental agencies related to commercial, industrial, and multi-family building projects.
  • Provide code information and answer code questions by phone and at the building counter as requested by the general public, contractors, and design professionals.
  • Participate in division operational processes, including procedure development and implementation.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Building Inspection Technology or a related field.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in plans examination.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards.
  • State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner or ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
  • State of Oregon Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner or ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification.
  • State of Oregon Residential Plans Examiner or ICC Residential Building Inspector certification.
  • State of Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector or ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification.
  • State of Oregon Inspector certification.

The salary range for this position is $50.24 hourly, with starting rate determined by relevant work experience.
