Horticultural Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced horticulturist to oversee the daily operations of our greenhouse and surrounding property. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and administering greenhouse, nursery, and property-related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee greenhouse and nursery operations, including planting, transplanting, deadheading, and pruning.
• Monitor and maintain greenhouse environmental conditions and controls.
• Design and implement annual and perennial flower/vegetable beds.
• Monitor plant health and recommend treatments as needed.
• Prepare orders, maintain stock, and process requisitions and invoices for required supplies.
• Assist in educational programming and work with Day Habilitation staff and groups to offer weekly learning and hands-on plant care activities.
• Manage greenhouse volunteers and assign tasks.
• Research and attend local markets to sell plants, flowers, and vegetables.
• Provide support to the marketing team by taking photos and short videos for social media platforms.
• Identify and report any issues to the Business Operations Manager or Program Administration.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree in horticulture, environmental science, or botany preferred.
• Prior experience working in a greenhouse or nursery required, three or more years experience strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills required.
• Strong interpersonal skills required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications required.
• Experience with customer relations and invoice management required.
• Qualified NYS Drivers License required.
• Ability to work flex hours, including evenings and weekends, required.

Work Environment:

The work generally requires extended periods of standing and walking and will require a moderate amount of bending, and the ability to handle and move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
