Mechanical Journeyman

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Journeyman to join our team at the State of OK JD McCarty Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing HVAC and refrigeration equipment, as well as supervising the work of construction/maintenance technicians and laborers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain, repair, and install HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, condensers, pumps, electrical and pneumatic control systems, fans, humidifiers, electronic filters, air compressors, electric motors, heat exchangers, and miscellaneous valves and pipes.
• Work with consultants and suppliers to troubleshoot systems or equipment and system upgrades.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Complete reports of maintenance inspections, including maintenance work completed, supplies used, recommendations for the equipment, and next service date.
• Supervise the work of construction/maintenance technicians, laborers, and groundskeeper, directing and teaching assigned staff members basic principles of repair or installation of assigned projects.
• Inspect buildings, premises, and equipment to determine requirements for maintenance, replacement, construction, or renovation projects.
• Assist with acquiring estimates of cost, labor, and materials.
• Assist supervisor with evaluation of bids and necessary specifications to meet hospital standards.
• Operate all Agency equipment in accordance with equipment manufacturers' guidelines or recommendations.
• Demonstrate safety awareness while performing assigned duties, using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety gloves, etc.
• Follow agency and department policy guidelines when lifting, using proper body mechanics for lifting/push/pulling up to 50 pounds and obtaining assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
• Act as department supervisor in absence of Director of Building and Maintenance, ensuring needs of the agency are met and completed in a professional and timely manner.
• Participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements:

• Active licensure as a Mechanical Journeyman with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board.
• Five years of experience in skilled building trade or maintenance work involving construction, maintenance, alteration, and/or repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities, including two years of supervising employees, or contractors in one of the fields listed above.
• Ability to maintain and repair various types of heating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning equipment; install various types of heating and air conditioning components; provide guidance and training to assigned work crews; perform highly independent work; read and interpret blueprints; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Must be able to have prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Must be able to lift, push, or pull 50 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Provide 2 professional work-related references.
• Provide your immunization record.
• Must follow established COVID protocols.

The State of OK JD McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36-bed hospital. Patients are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing and therapeutic services.
