Position Overview: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play a crucial role in assessing and managing patients in both the emergency department and hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts thorough and focused patient histories and physical assessments.
  2. Analyzes laboratory and diagnostic results, integrating subjective and objective findings to develop differential diagnoses and establish working diagnoses.
  3. Creates and implements treatment strategies for orthopedic issues within their professional scope, applying therapeutic interventions as necessary.
  4. Utilizes clinical judgment to determine when to consult or refer patients to the supervising orthopedic surgeon or other healthcare professionals.
  5. Orders and performs relevant laboratory and diagnostic evaluations, including routine tests, EMG, ECG, and various imaging studies such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, and bone scans.
  6. Executes minor outpatient surgical tasks, including tendon repairs, wound management, incision and drainage, needle biopsies, and compartment pressure assessments.
  7. Conducts diagnostic and therapeutic interventions such as joint aspirations and injections, as well as closed reductions of fractures and dislocations.
  8. Applies orthopedic devices such as braces, casts, and splints.
  9. Assists in surgical procedures, serving as the first assistant, performing wound closures, and applying internal devices as directed by the supervising orthopedic surgeon.
  10. Participates in hospital rounds, writes medical orders, responds to calls, and evaluates patients in the emergency department, developing and executing treatment plans for those hospitalized.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Experience in orthopedic care is preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Maryland or be eligible for licensure.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Employees in this role may encounter exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
