Overview

CentraState Healthcare System is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Operating Room team. As a Registered Nurse in this fast-paced and exciting specialty, you will have the opportunity to work in a seven-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1. You will scrub and circulate in the OR for surgery cases, including orthopedics, total joint replacement, pelvic/urologic, and bariatric surgeries.

Responsibilities
  • Provide considerate and respectful care focused on the patient's individual needs to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Affirm the patient's right to make decisions regarding their medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrate the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the patient, taking into account their age and health status.
  • Successfully complete life-span education as appropriate to the job performed.
  • Obtain a complete nursing history and baseline assessment that is systematic, consistent, and continuous, and communicate this information effectively using the Hand-off policy and document it.
  • Document results of patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care plan, nursing interventions, and evaluation and patient progress in the medical record according to hospital/nursing policy and the Nursing Standards of Care/Practice for the specific patient type.
  • Analyze patient information/assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and needs for appropriate nursing care, medical intervention, or services of other clinical professionals.
  • Identify patient problems and formulate nursing diagnosis according to physical, psychological, spiritual/cultural, and educational needs in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Consistently include the patient and family in the development of an individualized plan of care.
  • Administer medication as needed following CSHS policies and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Take immediate and appropriate actions in the event of a medication variance occurrence.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and/or emergency situations and take immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Participate in unit conferences to discuss quality issues and quality improvement strategies.
  • Delegate components of care to non-professional caregivers as appropriate, follow up on any delegated components of care and assignments given.
  • Make decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice, utilize sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the best patient outcomes.
  • Follow CSHS Pain Assessment policy.
  • Successfully function as a Resource Nurse, making decisions in the absence of the Clinical Leader and/or the Nurse Manager.
  • Support cost containment through efficient use of equipment, supplies, and other pertinent resources.
  • Recognize adverse reactions to medications and take immediate and appropriate action.
  • Evaluate the patient's needs for discharge and access appropriate resources for the patient and/or family.
  • Consistently provide written and verbal education to patients and/or families.
  • Successfully function as a preceptor/mentor to students and new staff members.
  • Consistently promote teamwork within the unit and between departments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Graduate of an approved program for Registered Nurses currently licensed to practice in NJ.
  • Previous operating room experience preferred.
  • RN license/NJ required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS and CNOR certified preferred.
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.
