Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Oncology Infusion RN to join our team at Rush University Medical Center. As a key member of our Hematology/Oncology department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and contributing to a positive patient outcome.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the collection of data to support unit-based quality initiatives, research, and evidence-based activities.
  • Utilize system-wide resources to support decision-making and action.
  • Recognize patterns/groupings of problems in a specific patient population that require investigation and initiate actions to address.
  • Communicate current evidence-based information with peers.
  • Establish a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness, and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes.
  • Collaborate consistently and effectively with other disciplines and services to meet the needs of patients/families.
  • Utilize competent assessment skills to holistically evaluate the physical and psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize care for complex patients based on knowledge acquired from previous clinical experiences.
  • Recognize changes in patient status and consistently respond effectively.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate consistent safe and effective use of medical devices in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assess patient safety needs consistently and implement appropriate strategies (fall precautions, infection control, and suicide risk patient identification) to minimize risk.
  • Individualize teaching plans based on a thorough assessment to meet the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Leadership: Demonstrate the ability to provide education to staff and students on the unit.
  • Delegates effectively and consistently to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate and provide sensitive medical and primary nursing care for patients with hematological-oncological diagnoses.
  • Provide infusion support including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive medications.
Requirements
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.
  • Earned nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher.
  • Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • 1-2 years RN med/surg experience.
  • 1 year Oncology experience.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Communication skills are required in order to lead and teach.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ambulatory oncology experience.
  • Ambulatory and infusion experience.
Physical Demands

Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift. Work requires lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300lbs. Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
