Selection Process: Evaluation based on Education & Experience: Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be assessed and scored based on their documented experience and education. Driving Record Assessment: Driving records of eligible candidates will be reviewed. Those who do not meet the City’s driving standards will not be considered for employment. The most qualified candidates based on the evaluation and driving record review will be placed on an eligibility list for potential appointment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate heavy-duty trucks and associated equipment under general supervision.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of materials.
  • Perform construction and maintenance tasks as required.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of at least the tenth grade and two years of experience operating various truck types.
  • Possession of a valid Iowa Class A CDL, allowing operation of vehicles with airbrakes. Certain roles may require a tank endorsement.

Special Requirements:
Current civil service employees wishing to transfer or those who previously held this position seeking a voluntary demotion should notify the Human Resources Office of their interest.

Examples of Essential Duties:
  • Drive trucks for hauling materials, supplies, and refuse.
  • Operate tank trucks for water transport or street sprinkling.
  • Load and unload materials using boom trucks.
  • Spread gravel, salt, sand, and other materials on roadways.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor servicing on assigned vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate mileage and service records.
