Job Summary

A Laboratory Assistant I (Phlebotomist) at Citizens Medical Center is responsible for collecting specimens in outpatient and inpatient locations. This role requires managing a high volume of collection requests for routine, timed, and emergent needs. The Laboratory Assistant is expected to demonstrate competency in age-specific requirements and knowledge of test requirements, as well as utilize electronic tools effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate successful phlebotomy or clerical responsibilities
  • Organize and guide specimen processes
  • Help create an organized environment for testing personnel
  • Route telephone calls and questions to the appropriate section
  • Monitor the tube system in a timely manner
  • Assist with clerical needs of the Laboratory
  • Assist with supply orders and stocks inventory
  • Accept special assignments and tasks as guided by Laboratory leaders
Requirements
  • High School diploma and Phlebotomy certificate or experience
  • 6 months to one (1) year experience in Phlebotomy
  • Proficiency in clerical skills, including computer skills, customer service skills, telephone etiquette, knowledge of office equipment, and office procedures
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment
  • Organization and communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities for multifunctional tasks to be handled simultaneously
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy Certificate
  • Some college or continuing education hours
  • UDS/BAT Certification
  • CPR
