Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Grand Island Public Schools. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in maximizing the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend courses of action or corrective procedures.
  • Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students, in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and other support staff.
  • Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans, ensuring a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to provide counseling and support, and to facilitate parental involvement in students' education.
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field, through attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain accurate and complete record-keeping, and provide student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Requirements
  • Nebraska Teaching Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
