Electrical Inspector Job Description

As an Electrical Inspector with the State of Alaska, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety through the regulation and inspection of electrical installations. Your expertise will be essential in verifying compliance with electrical codes and standards, and taking enforcement action when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform electrical inspections on new, altered, added, and temporary installations on all buildings from residential triplex to commercial and industrial applications.
  • Assist electrical contractors and industry professionals with understanding and complying with electrical codes and standards.
  • Verify electrical and plumbing Certificates of Fitness and contractor licensing, and take appropriate enforcement action.
  • Enforce electrical and mechanical administrator regulations within statutory, regulatory, and policy guidelines.
Requirements:

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and different situations.
  • Standards: Knowledge of trade standards and codes, state statutes and regulations regarding enforcement of requirements within our jurisdiction.
  • Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling, and communicates information in a succinct and organized manner.
Working Environment:

This position is located in the Fairbanks State Office Building, with daily interaction with the public during field inspections of worksites and answering questions related to trade licensing requirements. A state vehicle is required for daily use to perform field inspections.
