POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Nursing Assistant Instructor is responsible for overseeing and delivering the nurse aide training program, ensuring high-quality educational services that align with the department's mission to support its clientele.
Key responsibilities include developing a comprehensive syllabus for each student, crafting and executing teaching methodologies that fulfill course objectives, and assessing student performance and progress.
COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS:
This role involves working collaboratively with fellow staff members to create and implement effective educational programs and provide appropriate services to students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements outline the essential functions of this position. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and skills required:
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Adult and Community Education Department and the Nurse Aide Program.
- Contribute to the development of the program's philosophy, objectives, curriculum, and policies, ensuring compliance with standards set by the Ohio Board of Health and other regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing educational resources.
- Design clinical and laboratory experiences for students to meet established clinical objectives.
- Clearly communicate course objectives and evaluation methods to students and relevant staff.
- Review assessments with students to enhance understanding and verify learning outcomes.
- Engage with clinical facility staff to ensure adherence to policies and clarity of student assignments.
- Facilitate student orientation to clinical environments, including familiarization with staff and facility protocols.
- Supervise students during clinical practice, ensuring safety and compliance with established guidelines.
- Plan and conduct conferences in clinical settings, aligning with unit experiences and individual student needs.
- Develop evaluation methods, including written assessments and assignments based on course objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and progress.
- Provide guidance to students regarding competencies, learning, and professional development.
- Offer additional instruction and tutoring as needed, and refer students to support resources when appropriate.
- Assume responsibility for student placement and retention.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should possess:
- A minimum of two years of nursing experience as a licensed registered nurse, with at least one year in a long-term care setting.
- Experience in evaluating clinical skills in a long-term care environment.
- Successful completion of an approved Ohio Train the Trainer (TTT) program.
- Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.
- Ohio Department of Education Adult Education Permit (Health Occupations).
- At least one year of direct supervision of nurse aides in a long-term care facility within the last three years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Desirable attributes include:
- Demonstrated competency in the subject matter.
- Availability to work during evenings and other times as needed.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse programs and staff.
