Police Cadet Position

Meridian Township is seeking a part-time Police Cadet to support the Meridian Township Police Department. The ideal candidate will be a college student enrolled in a criminal justice program and have a strong interest in law enforcement.

The Police Cadet will work approximately 20 hours per week, with hours set based on their school schedule. The cadet desk is open seven days a week from 7 am to 11 pm, including weekends and holidays.

The Police Cadet program has proven to be a valuable tool for recruiting future MTPD officers. In the past three years, MTPD has sponsored and/or hired six of our former police cadets for full-time police officer positions.

The Police Cadet will be responsible for the following duties:

Duties

• Office and clerical duties
• Equipment and facility maintenance
• Routine police service requests at the reception area
• Report writing in minor incidents
• Answering and directing incoming phone calls
• Selected community service assignments
• Substitute as crossing guard
• Assisting in training of officers (range, AVI, etc.)

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a student at an institution of higher education or at discretion of Chief of Police. Criminal Justice students preferred.
• An interest in law enforcement or related field. This includes problem-solving.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written orders/instructions.
• Ability to analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, reasonable course of action.
• Ability to work courteously and professionally with the public.
• Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with fellow employees.
• Ability to support the mission of Meridian Township Police Department.
• United States Citizen.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
